Athletics

Welcome to G.M.M.S Athletics! We are excited to have your students participating in our activities.

Our Goals
1.) enjoy the game (2.) learn to be a good teammate 3.) learn sportsmanship (4.) strengthen individual skills

Important Information


Forms and Fees

  • Permission/insurance form must be completed and turned in before participation
  • $70 or payment plan must be paid or arranged by the first game in order to play in games.
    • Payment plans can be arranged

 

Clothing 

  • Athletes must wear school appropriate clothing to games and practice. Please dress in athletic wear for practices. NO jeans, non-court shoes, or metal jewelry. Jewelry piercings must be removed; there will not be any taping over them permitted 
  • Black shorts are to be worn for all games with the provided jersey. 

Jerseys 

  • Will be handed out before games start and MUST be returned at the end of the season
  • Please wash regularly!!!!  (Cold Wash/Air Dry: machine wash in cold water and air dry)
  • Athletes are responsible for lost or damaged jerseys.

 

Practices

Practice will be held every day except game days, unless otherwise notified. 

  • One grade level (7th/8th) will practice in the morning from 6:30 - 7:30 am 
  • One grade level (7th/8th) will practice after school from 3:30 - 4:30 pm
  • Announcements will be made about the time in which each grade level will be practicing

Athletes Must:

  • Be on time and prepared to practice/play in appropriate clothing 
  • Attend the practice before a game in order to play in the game
  • Follow the TRACKS to success

 

Transportation 

  • Transportation will only be provided to each game. NO RETURN TRANSPORTATION IS SCHEDULED! Please plan accordingly. (Athletes MUST have a note from a parent if he/she will be riding with another athlete.)
  • STUDENT/ATHLETES NEED TO BE PICKED-UP NO LATER THAN 15 MINUTES AFTER THE LAST GAME HAS ENDED AT BOTH HOME & AWAY GAMES!

 

Teams/Games 

  • Teams are based on the skill level of each player, creating flexible teams throughout the entire season. 
  • Athletes will be released from class at 2:40 on days they play an away game. Students are responsible to talk to their teacher about missed class time, and how to make up any work they will be missing.
  • Games start at 3:45 pm. Start times for the game(s) to follow are approximate and based on game play. (First game at 3:45, next at approximately 4:45, and last at approximately 5:45….it’s best to be there a little earlier!)
  • Game order is subject to change based on the number of teams of the opposing school. We will try to give 24 hour notice if this is the case.
  • Athletes are representing G.M.M.S.---student athletes must show the POWER!
  • Support from ALL players for ALL teams is greatly appreciated and encouraged. (If an athlete plays on A, he/she is there to support the B team. The same goes for B team players supporting the A team.)

 

Eligibility Requirements

*Administration may use their discretion to establish greater expectations for their school than these foundations.

Behavioral Criteria:

Attendance Criteria:

OSS – the student is prohibited from participating in practice and contests until they have been re-admitted to school after fulfilling their suspension.  The student will be required to miss at least one game/contest per suspension. If this game/contest is during their suspension, this will fulfil their 

 

ISS – the student is prohibited from participating in practice and contests from the moment they are assigned ISS until they have fulfilled their consequence. The student will also miss the next game she is eligible to play in. A second and any additional ISS will result in missing the next two games she is eligible to play in.

 

 

Multiple behavior infractions such as OSS, ISS, and disciplinary actions may result in a parent meeting and possible removal from the team.

Any unexcused (UNX) absence (includes parent verified unexcused absence) during the day* prohibits that student from practice and/or contests for that day. A parent verified absence will be evaluated on a case by case situation by the athletic director and/or building administration.

(*any portion of a school day, whether it be a single period, multiple periods, or all day. A UNX on Friday prohibits the student from practice/competition on the weekend.)

 

Any absence due to illness must be approved by either the athletic director or administration in order to participate in contests. Students must be in attendance for a minimum of the afternoon classes in order to participate with an illness.
